International Refugee Support

The founders of Winter Cornerstone Foundation, Kris and Richard Laski’s commitment to refugee support is exemplified in their work with refugees from diverse backgrounds including Syria, Afghanistan, and other war-torn countries. Motivated by the visceral impact of a documentary (4.1 Miles), they visited refugee camps, in the islands of Greece to support refugees on the ground. Their time in places like the Souda refugee camp was not just about distributing supplies; it was a full-hearted endeavor to establish genuine connections and offer emotional sustenance to the displaced people they encountered. For the Laskis, humanitarian work isn't just a matter of charity, but a pathway to building lasting relationships, nurturing mutual respect, and challenging prevailing narratives around global displacement.
In 2019, we funded an Afghan-refugee-led startup, SAFAR. It was originally founded in 2019 and helped refugees in Greece with access to reliable information and resources. In 2021, as Afghanistan fell back into the hands of the Taliban, SAFAR helped evacuate hundreds of at-risk Afghans. Currently, Winter Cornerstone Foundation is supporting SAFAR in its efforts to provide sustenance to refugees in need and facilitate educational opportunities for refugees.
Founded in May 2021 by a Syrian refugee and a Los Angeles leadership coach, Refugee JumpStart Coaching aims to boost refugees' career prospects through one-on-one virtual coaching. Volunteer professionals offer their expertise to help clients tap into their strengths, experiences, and education for career success. The program serves English-speaking, educated refugees who are keen on establishing careers but were forced to flee their homes for safety. Clients come from a diverse range of countries, including Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, and beyond, reflecting a global focus on employability and empowerment.
Mission Emanuel

Mission Emanuel is a Dominican Republic-based ministry aimed at community transformation through the teachings of Jesus Christ. Situated in the villages of Cielo and Nazaret near Santo Domingo, the mission's Cielo campus features a pre-school, medical center, water purification plant, and community amenities like a women's cooperative workroom. Throughout the year, the mission welcomes short-term teams from the U.S. to work on construction projects. However, the core objective is to foster relationships. Teams engage with locals, deepening their understanding of God, different cultures, and the challenges of the developing world.
